Methodology — Where These Values Come From
Market values (primary). Player and pick values are calculated by FantasyCalc from millions of real, completed fantasy football trades. They answer the question a trade calculator should answer: what does this player actually trade for right now? We fetch the values on a schedule, cache them on our own server, and show the update time on every page. We never scrape KeepTradeCut — their crowdsourced values are their own work.
Expert values (second opinion). DynastyProcess converts FantasyPros expert consensus rankings into values on the same 0–10,000 scale. Experts and the market disagree by 5–15% on individual players — that's normal and useful. When the two sources call a trade differently, the calculator says so in one line.
How the verdict is calculated
- Raw totals are the sum of each side's values.
- Stud adjustment: the best asset on a side gets +8% (value 8,000+) or +4% (6,500–7,999). One elite player is worth more than a pile of average ones adding to the same number.
- Depth penalty: assets past the third on a side count at 90% — roster spots are scarce, so depth is worth less than its face value.
- Fairness bands (adjusted difference, % of the larger side): ≤3% even · 3–8% slight edge · 8–15% favors · >15% lopsided.
- Even-the-trade suggestions find the single asset closest in value to the remaining gap.
Honest limits
Values are for standard 12-team leagues and can't know your roster, your standings, or that you desperately need a tight end this week. A contender "losing" a value trade for a win-now veteran can be making the right move. Treat the verdict as a second opinion before you hit send — not as the decision itself.
